Atrium Named One of 15 New York–Area Med Spas Listing Weight Loss and Blood Testing

IV and Phlebotomy Lounge at Atrium Medspa where blood testing for weight loss (and many other reasons) is performed.
Atrium’s luxury IV hydration and phlebotomy lounge, featuring individual stalls that can provide you with a sense of privacy.

Of 644 med spas reviewed within 25 miles of Manhattan, only 15 (2.3%) listed both prescription weight loss programs and blood testing services on their websites. Atrium Medspa was one of them.

Our inclusion in Whelth Journal’s New York–area feature brings attention to a distinction that matters: medical weight management should involve more than access to a prescription. According to the research summary Whelth shared with us, 198 of the practices reviewed listed prescription weight loss programs, while only 15 also published blood testing services.

At Atrium, quality shows up in the details of your care: meeting with a board-certified weight loss physician, using brand-name medications, reviewing clinically appropriate blood work, and tracking body composition alongside your weight. Our physician-led weight management program in Upper Saddle River, NJ brings those elements together with ongoing follow-up and support beyond the appointment.

A physician-led plan, not just a prescription

Choosing a weight loss treatment starts with understanding the person taking it. Your medical history, current medications, previous experiences with weight management, and goals all belong in that conversation.

At Atrium, program members routinely meet with a physician certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine; this board certification ensures deep expertise in weight loss strategies and the entire gamut of medications that may be available to help. Those appointments provide an opportunity to discuss treatment options, review progress, and make decisions based on your health—not simply renew a prescription.

The initial consultation is the beginning of that relationship. Follow-up gives you time to raise questions, discuss how you are tolerating treatment, and review whether your plan needs to change. Our program includes ongoing visits, nutritional guidance, and lab monitoring as needed, with telehealth available to help patients stay connected between in-person appointments.

Why blood testing belongs in the conversation

The scale can tell you how much you weigh, but it cannot tell you your blood sugar, cholesterol levels, or kidney function. Depending on your history and risk factors, blood testing can help identify health concerns that are relevant to your weight management plan. It can also provide a baseline for reviewing changes over time.

At Atrium, we want to understand your individual risk factors to make sure that we’re providing you with optimal care. That’s why, for those starting on a weight loss program with us, we make sure to check labs that include, but are not limited to:

  • Blood glucose or hemoglobin A1c to assess blood sugar.
  • A lipid panel to review cholesterol and triglycerides.
  • Kidney function tests when relevant to your health or treatment.
  • Liver-related blood tests when clinically indicated.

Not every patient needs the same tests or the same testing schedule. At Atrium, screening labs and follow-up testing are guided by your medical history, treatment, and clinical needs. The purpose is to gather information that can inform your care—not order a broad panel without a reason

Publishing blood testing services was part of Whelth’s inclusion criteria. For our patients, the more important question is how those results are interpreted and used within a physician-led plan.

We use brand-name medications, not compounded alternatives

Atrium’s GLP-1 weight management program uses FDA-approved, brand-name prescriptions rather than compounded alternatives. Medication selection is based on your physician’s evaluation of your history, eligibility, and treatment goals. FDA-approved medications undergo review for safety, effectiveness, and quality before approval.

Our program’s choice is to use brand-name prescriptions alongside clinical oversight and follow-up. That does not mean a medication is risk-free or appropriate for everyone; it means the product being prescribed has undergone FDA review, while your physician remains responsible for assessing whether it is suitable for you.

Quarterly InBody analysis helps us look beyond pounds lost

A change in weight may not always mean dropping the fat; while FDA-approved medications are generally regarded as safe, side effects may include a disproportionate loss of muscle mass in some patients. At Atrium, weight management members receive quarterly InBody body composition analysis to add another layer of data to see your progress, and allow us to make adjustments if necessary.

InBody estimates body composition, including fat, muscle, and body water. Reviewing those estimates over time gives us more context than weight alone and supports conversations about your nutrition, activity, and progress. The measurements are estimates, not a substitute for a clinical evaluation, but they provide another useful point of reference during follow-up.

Monitoring continues after treatment begins

Starting medication is a treatment decision; continuing it should involve continued attention.

Atrium’s program includes regular check-ins, follow-up visits, and lab monitoring when needed. These check-ins give your physician an opportunity to review your response, discuss concerns, and adjust the plan when appropriate. They also give you a consistent place to ask questions rather than manage treatment on your own.

The goal is a program in which prescription management, progress tracking, and lifestyle support remain connected throughout your care.

Movement support, including 10% off Pvolve

Our approach also includes support outside the office. Active Atrium weight management members receive 10% off a Pvolve membership at their Upper Saddle River location. Pvolve offers a low-impact functional fitness approach centered on strength, mobility, and stability. This benefit gives members an additional option for making movement part of their routine. A Pvolve membership is separate from your Atrium membership, and the discount applies to eligible active program members at the participating location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Atrium was included in Whelth Journal’s review of New York–area med spas that list both prescription weight loss programs and blood testing services on their websites. According to the research summary Whelth shared, its team reviewed 698 med spas within 25 miles of Manhattan, and Atrium was one of only 15 to meet the feature’s published criteria.

The feature recognizes the services a practice publishes. For us, this is a useful way to highlight the components we believe belong in a thoughtful weight management program: physician-led care, clinically appropriate testing, brand-name medications, and ongoing follow-up.

Our program is designed around more than writing a prescription. Patients meet with a board-certified weight loss physician to review their medical history, goals, and treatment options. Depending on clinical need, the program may include blood testing, nutritional guidance, quarterly InBody body composition analysis, and regular follow-up.

We also use FDA-approved, brand-name medications rather than compounded alternatives. The goal is to give patients a plan with appropriate oversight—not simply access to medication.

Blood testing can provide information that a scale cannot. Depending on your history and risk factors, your physician may review markers related to blood sugar, cholesterol, kidney function, or liver health.

These results can help inform your treatment plan and provide a baseline for monitoring changes over time. Testing is not one-size-fits-all; at Atrium, your physician determines which labs are appropriate based on your individual health profile and treatment.

InBody is a body composition analysis that estimates fat mass, muscle mass, and body water. At Atrium, our weight loss patients receive quarterly InBody analysis so we can review changes beyond weight alone.

The scale may show a lower number, but body composition data can add context to the conversation about your progress. InBody measurements are estimates and are used alongside your physician’s clinical evaluation—not as a replacement for it.

No. Atrium’s GLP-1 weight management program uses FDA-approved, brand-name medications rather than compounded alternatives. Medication selection is based on your physician’s assessment of your medical history, eligibility, and treatment goals.

Brand-name medications have undergone FDA review for safety, effectiveness, and quality. That does not mean they are appropriate for everyone or free of risk, which is why physician evaluation and follow-up remain central to the program.
